When To Do Rotator Cuff Exercises

Looking into exercises for rotator cuff? Chances are you probably are well aware that the rotator cuff is the network of four muscles and the tendons that attach them to the shoulder bones. You are likely also aware that these muscles are not exactly strong on their own, but that they play an essential role in many of our daily activities such as lifting, pulling, carrying and even just the general use of our arms, not to mention in sports and exercises.


Everyday the rotator cuff goes through a lot of work. Over time it can become worn and an injury can occur. This is often not a sudden, painful type of injury, but you may notice over time that your range of motion has gone down, or that there is pain or weakness in the shoulder.

If a rotator cuff injury happens to you, it is important to care for it as soon as you can. It may not be smart to start right in on rotator cuff exercises if the pain is serious, as there may be more damage that you are aware of, in which case a trip to the doctor is in order, but there is no question that rotator cuff injury exercises will be called for at some point.

Once you've given the necessary attention to your shoulder and your doctor has given the green light, you should get started with rotator cuff exercises. These specific exercises are designed to strengthen the shoulder, making it more able to bear the loads it has to, as well as making it flexible and stable.

In your first rotator cuff exercises attempt, you should keep it simple. You will not need to use any extra weight until you have built up some strength, at which point you can add a pound or two. Also, don't just do any exercises, make sure they are specific to your injury or problem and that your doctor has okay'ed them.

Rotator cuff exercises is encouraged to do all time not only when you have an injury. By working with this muscle group while you are healthy, you build up the tolerance for the strains you put on it. This way, instead of wearing out over time, the muscles are always tough and ready to do what is required, preventing any injury to the area.

By doing regular exercises it will be a better idea because it serves as a preventive measure rather than waiting for any injury to occur. Rotator cuff injuries can be very painful and really limit what you are able to do every day. They can take a long time to heal, and if surgery is necessary for repair, recovery can be a very slow, painful process indeed. Better to prevent than treat!!
